Hakulinkangas (Haapajärvi)
Component Master Plan ➔ Draft Zoning Plan in preparation
Infinergies Finland Oy began planning the Hakulinkangas wind power project in Haapajärvi, Northern Ostrobothnia, in 2020. The project area covers nearly 5,000 hectares and is located approximately 12 km north of Haapajärvi, bordering the municipal boundaries of both Haapavesi and Nivala.
Up to 22 wind turbines are planned for the area. Upon completion, the total capacity of the project’s turbines will be approximately 176 MW, and they are estimated to produce a maximum of approximately 440 GWh of clean renewable energy per year. This corresponds roughly to the annual electricity consumption of 23,000 electrically heated single-family homes for a family of four, with an average annual energy consumption of 19,000 kWh each.
The planning of this project takes into consideration, among other things, the local residential areas, nature conservation areas, and the wind power projects nearby.
The environmental impact assessment report (EIA report) and draft component master plan for the Hakulinkangas project were completed in the spring of 2025. A draft zoning plan proposal is currently being prepared for the project. At the same time, planning for power transmission and other infrastructure continues.
